My first Mass here at Carpenders Park was memorable for the warmth of the welcome (people’s eyes were smiling even if it was impossible to see behind the face masks !) It was sad though, having just arrived, immediately to announce that the church was to close for public worship as part of the national covid lockdown.
Happily we are now open again and will resume our schedule of regular Masses at the weekend and on Thursdays and Fridays. I want on your behalf most sincerely to thank the team of dedicated volunteers who have stewarded and cleaned the church to make a safe reopening possible. A few words of introduction. I was born in Birmingham of a Mum from Co. Cork in Ireland and a Dad from Yorkshire. The eldest, with three sisters. I attended Catholic schools in Birmingham and then studied Theology at University. After college I worked for a while within the Lloyd’s insurance market in London and the USA.For almost 25 years I enjoyed a busy and varied career as a professional actor.
Having been accepted for training for the priesthood, I was sent to the Beda College in Rome where I spent four years and after ordination in 2017 was appointed to Palmers Green, followed by Sudbury.
I look forward to getting to know the faces behind the masks in Carpenders Park. This year we all will appreciate more than ever that light which shines in the darkness and which the darkness cannot overcome. God Bless you all this Advent season and keep you safe.
