The Parish of Carpenders Park and South Oxhey is situated in the Watford deanery. It was founded in 1952 with the church being built in 1960 and consecrated in 1981.
St Joseph’s Church nestles in the heart of South Oxhey and geographically covers South Oxhey, parts of Oxhey Hall and Carpenders Park.
The area of South Oxhey was built after the Second World War to help alleviate the housing pressures thrust upon London during the Blitz most of the evacuees settled here after the War possibly because of its easy links to London Euston.
In 2016 Three Rivers District Council started work on a regeneration scheme building over 500 affordable homes for private sale, shared ownership and rental together with 55000 sq ft of retail space, the work is due to be completed in 2022.
As such the church now finds itself going through a period of transition, continuing to serve our diverse congregation, learning to become a working community to help integrate the new growing population and getting ready to welcome a newly appointed Parish priest in September. Fr Dominic McKenna is supporting the parish until then.
We are a parish which hopes to engage all who seek to find God in their lives, and are always available to help you on your personal journey of Faith.
A particular blessing is our infant and junior school, which does much to enrich the parish in so many ways.
Many of its students go on to Catholic Secondary schools, with which we nurture a working relationship.
Worship at Saint Joseph’s is modern and relaxed, Saturday Vigil Mass 6.00pm being structured for young people, the 8.30 Sunday being a quieter setting and the 10.30 on Sunday being more formal.
Of particular note is our beautiful Garden of Rest at the rear of the church building, where all are welcome to rest a while, silent prayer or just to be there.
So if you feel that you would like to share your journey of faith within the Saint Joseph’s community, please come along and find out more, you will be most welcome,
